I use the wrong term. There is a one time death benefit of $255. However, there is survivor benefit.
My father died in 1969 in Vietnam when I was nine months old. My mother collected SSN for both her husband having died, and also on my behalf because my father died. My mother collected until she re-married, and collected for me until I turned 18.
I just pulled out my last statement from SSN, and if my child dies I collect $1533 a month. My wife would get the same.[/QUOTE]
You're wrong. If YOU die then your child will collect that amount, not if your child dies.
