That hand 88 vs AT,wasnt called "Bad beat" ,Player with pocket 88s was just unlucky,preflop its flip coin,he was small favourite maybe 56%-44% to win that hand.
Bad beat is str8 flush vs stronger str8flush ,quads vs quads etc
