I would say that if you are a good person good things happen only because you put yourself in a position where good things are more probable than bad things - just as being a bad person increases the probability of bad things happening.... but...
As I was thinking about this, I pondered the irony of a guy who thinks he did good but then wants to know how the universe is going to compensate him. Then I started considering how selfish the act actually was and how selfish you actually are. A good person would just do something good and never think to ask "Whats in it for me". You'll probably get hit by a truck within 10 days.

2: I do lots of small and big jobs for people and never even think to ask for anything in return. But like you say if you are around good things more good will come.
