Even though NameCheap is ICANN accredited, they run many, if not most, domain registrations through eNom...
In those instances, eNom possesses the domain ... and despite one being a NameCheap customer, eNom policies ultimately control - that has burnt some NameCheap customers who found their domains put under registrar-hold (NameCheap can't override) by eNom.
