It's actually NOT saving anything at all, no matter how many times you click save, it will look like it's saving but in reality it doesn't happen. I used to run an office support center with 12 guys manning the lines and the users did this all the time. And really, who can blame them, because it all LOOKS just like normal but in reality you're fucked.
If it was a file you originally double clicked on your local machine and opened in your own local copy of MS Excel, then there should be a temporary copy of it somewhere, check:
Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Temp
Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp
C:\WINDOWS\Temp
See also what folder Excel has set as "home folder", the default "save to" folder.
Hope it helps. Else, stop spending time looking for lost work, just get at it and start re-building - I know it sucks but no need to cry over spilled milk.

Its a file on my local pc. I already looked in the folder for the autorecovery files and it's not in there... C:\Users\Jackie\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\
Looked at where it saves temporarily C:\Users\Jackie\Documents and it's not in there...
looked in the temp file and did a search and its not in there either...
