I know you asked Dean but allow me if you will. first off theres nothing wrong with what you are doing now but the difference I see most is in exposure/color saturation. The big thing to remember on that front is dont over expose the shot if anything underexpose it a tad, add some depth to the lighting. Theres a lot that can be done in post production but you cant dial back the exposure but you can dial it up . An overexposed shot will not allow you near as much flexibility in adjusting the color saturation.

Im with Dean here, don't let the ducks peck ya to death. do your own thing and constantly strive to improve it a bit at a time. And remember if you are making money doing what you are doing now it may not need fixing at all.
