I agree, you should get your feet wet first before you start swimming. If you try to jump ahead too fast before you've learned tips n tricks, the in's n outs you may only be setting yourself up for disaster... and at the end you'll have wondered what in the world you did wrong.
start small, build your way up. On the plus side if you start building blogs now you could start small blogs around the target niche or market that you plan on creating a subscription site for later on. Then once you get to the point where you begin to setup your subscription site you can use the juice from your blogs that you created when you were first starting out to boost your new site.
