Peyton Manning was let go because his ability to throw passes was compromised by the operation he underwent. In practice his passing ability was severally slowed to the point he can no longer throw bullets or hail marys... So anybody that gets him is hoping, like some stroke victims, his nervous system will rewire itself and his previous passing ability will return before the next season begins.
