They were that way, WAY before they had the issues of today... what you listed is the talking points "after" the fact.
Greece is where America is going, for the exact same reasons. Borrow big and spend it on your friends, ask for help - get more loans, pay more friends, move what free money they do have (ie our states) spend that in markets, and lose it big money friends.... then cut spending that they need money to pay back interest but they have none because they spend it all, thus they cut education, wages, pensions, etc... to free up money, and finally, blame the people for the problems when the people never created them.
Social systems do not bankrupt countries... politicians do.
