So to get back to the thread and ignore the little trolls.
Paul Markham - There is nothing wrong with the tube model.
True or not?
In business it's easy to gauge the success of a tool like Tubes and its effect on the industry, so I will apply the same test.
(A) Have the introduction of porn Tubes led to more money spent for online porn? The answer is a clear no. Since 2008 we have seen more sites close, cut out affiliates, look for ways to not pay affiliates, for affiliates, designers and others leave the business. No doubt for a few Tubes have been good, but for the industry as a whole they have been bad. Soon for those that benefit from them will feel the squeeze.
[(B) Have Tubes led to more traffic online? Yes. Still traffic doesn't = $$$$ sales do. so the extra traffic has to add extra sales. It also has to first replace the sales of people who are now consuming for free that were buying. There is no evidence Tubes did this and lots of indications they haven't.
(C) Have Tubes led to more free content online? Yes and there's no disputing with this.
(D) Have Tubes led to more piracy? Yes.
(E) Have Tubes allowed some sectors of adult to profit for free or limited costs? Yes, the traffic sectors, Dating and Webcam sites are buying traffic at a fraction of the real price. They don't pay for the content that draws the surfers to their adverts and if they had to they couldn't afford the traffic. A fool recently compared the advertising of Coke on NBC. For a 30 sec slot of advertising during the Superbowl the price is $3,500,000 plus the price of making the advert. This goes a little way to pay for the Superbowl. With all the stopping and starting the advertisers pay for the content.
(F) Are Tubes easy to put up? Yes and this is the problem. The easier it is, the more who can do iit and the lower the bar is set. Pimproll have made it so easy any fool can do it. Whether any fool is going to make much money doing doing it, is still to be decided. So far it looks like they will be sending traffic for PR to take a slice out of before selling it onwards. Long term will tell whether this plan works for those participating. All we do know is selling memberships off this traffic doesn't work very well.
So now ST23 put the case for Tubes and the benefits they have brought the industry. Or anyone else and please no stupid one line replies of abuse. I know that's the level of some, but there must be some intelligent repliers here.
