If you run your own network and are a one man show or you are running somebody else's network...

Lets say you are going to implement openx for ads... And you are going to put it on a domain... Don't. Instead... Put it on a subdomain of the domain you intend to use.

That way when you decide to move that to its own server you can just edit the DNS to point the subdomain to a new server. All new shit should be subdomained if it is a backend type of system like a CMS or CDN...
