OP, technically, I don't see anything foolish about it. Or contradictory, or whatever your starting point actually was.

The nature of affiliance HAS changed drastically, it no longer is what it was, and affiliate programs are changing, smaller affiliates are going extinct, and 'affiliates' (smaller affiliates) haven't really been needed for years.

But, if you already have an affiliate program, you don't necessarily abandon it. Yet.

Unless there are dramatic new trends that emerge, small affiliates are done for, except as specialty marketers. This trend is clear.
