A friend of mine is going through a similar thing. He can't find a job and he's 3 months in arrears on his child support payments. He's facing potential jail-time if he doesn't come up with $3k to pay the arrears.
He says that his ex-wife has tried to talk to the courts about it, saying she doesn't want him to go to jail for non-payment etc, but they don't care at all, it means nothing to them.
You say there's a way for the chick to lower the amount or say there's no claim. Do you have a link or anything you could share of that? I'd love to be able to provide that to my friend, perhaps that would be a saving grace for him in this situation.
It's terrible that people can go to jail over this kind of thing, particularly if they can PROVE they don't have an income, and prove that they're trying to get one.
