I would say this is closer to the truth. Few girls would ever of thought of doing porn, even in the early days. What were the big lures aren't anymore. A decent looking girl with a good attitude could earn $1,000 a week without doing hardcore. Do hardcore and that would double or treble.
And the odds were she would stay anonymous.
Today few girls earn a lot of money. There's simply not the production there was, even before the Internet there was far more production than today, discounting the little Ma & Pa operations who pay rubbish. Even with those there's very little today.
The money is also crap, simply put content production budgets are so squeezed there's little left to pay most models.
Then the biggest deterrent is the odds on getting found out and an end to a career, possibility of a good career, stigma, etc. Girls never hear stories of girlfriends who did porn and no one knows. They hear stories of girls who did it and get found out, they hear of all the free porn on Pornhub. Anyone who thinks that makes it acceptable for them to do porn, is kidding themselves. It might make porn acceptable, but for them to get seen with a dick in their ass while screaming "Ram the big cock into my tight teen ass" isn't going to go down well with their friends or family.
However during a recession there were always more girls who would do anything to earn money. Today there's hooking, stripping, lap dancing, etc.
