I would put that down to culture more than anything else. If there are existing 'role models' or peers for young gays then they are less likely to feel the need to hide who they are or feel guilty about it. And the more open it is, the more other people will get used it and tolerate it, even if they don't particularly like or approve of it, which in turn encourages more gays/trannies to be more open.

In the West, trannies are virtually nowhere to be seen and gays are usually confined to specific 'ghettos'. Men dressing as women has traditionally been as entertainment or comedy, so trannies are treated as a joke and the subject or ridicule or abuse. It also doesn't help that, unlike in Asia where men are arguably smaller and less 'masculine', Western trannies are often built like like brick shithouses.
