GM is now the world's leading auto manufacturer. If it was left up to the republicans and their free-market principles this would not be the case. They wanted to hang the auto industry out to dry, possibly killing hundreds of thousands of American jobs in the process. The republicans had no problem bailing out the financial service sector though, which does absolutely nothing except shift money around. You can say that both parties are bought and paid for, but there is clearly a lesser of two evils.
