Honestly, if you're worried about the guy go out and talk to him. Tell him you're proud of him recycling and would like to help, asking what he's looking for so you can have it put aside in the future and make it easier for him to pick up so he doesn't have to rummage though your stuff cause you believe in recycling and want to help someone who's doing such a good thing for the environment! Basically - befriend him and get him to tell you what he's up to.
