I moved from PA to Montreal 9 years ago. I live in a small town off the island of Montreal and I like it a lot here. I love the city, its just I prefer living in the country and not a city.

There are areas where it's all French. English isn't spoken or understood at all. But, for the most part, Montreal is pretty bilingual. Especially the more west you go. My French language skills are practically non-existent and it's seldom an issue.

The people here are pretty friendly. Me being an American has never been an issue. Then again, I'm not one of these arrogant, ignorant Americans who thinks the world revolves around the United States and everyone has to adopt to our way of doing things because we're superior to everyone else.

The food is good here. Especially the breads and pastries. It took me about 3 years of living here before I'd try poutine though. lol It just looked absolutely disgusting. But now, I actually like it.

The weather here isn't unbearable. We have 4 seasons, even though there's an ongoing joke that Montreal only has 2 seasons - Winter and Construction - which there's a lot of truth to that. lol

The cost of living really isn't that bad.
