Long ago when I worked for a big tech company they expanded their test area so they hired a handful of new people. When I had started working there you had to take a pretty intense test proving your basic computer knowledge because the testers worked on computers all day.
The new batch comes in. I am in charge of training the night shift group. As we get started I told them to weigh something and enter the number in a box. A few minutes later I came back and they were just sitting there. They ask how to enter the number in the box. I tell them to just click the box and you can type in the numbers. They say, "click?" I then tell them to use the mouse to click the box. They ask, "mouse?" I thought the supervisor had put them up to this and they were all fucking with me, but it turns out they had never used a computer.
The crazy thing was that they got them through a temp service. Instead of sending them back and getting new people they kept them so I got the teach them how to use a computer and then how to test the device they were working with.
