That's an interesting comparison. In 2005 AOL had four times as many subscribers as their closest competitor. Obviously they were doing something right. You don't get to be #1 and stay #1 for many years by doing it all wrong. Same with Apple - obviously Apple is doing something right. At the same time, AOL, like Apple, tries to create a closed universe. Openness and compatibilty are not goals of AOL.
