what he said - there isn't a small town i've ever been in that doesn't have at least a couple of mom and pop pizza places that make pizza 100 times better than a chain can.

i grew up in a pizza heaven, small city with a very large Italian immigrant population, there were half a dozen mom and pop pizza joints plus another 4 or 5 full service Italain food restaurants - all food made from scratch and mamma's recipe.

the best was from an old tavern/hotel called the Rex which had Pizza Alley- to get to the pizza part you went past the beverage room with old WWII bastards and high school kids drinking draft beer - god i loved the smell of stale beer, sometimes vomit, cigarettes and Italian food, i can smell it now.

one of our Italian neighbors was the sister of the guy who owned the Rex, the tomato sauce was home made and the tomatoes flown in fresh from California. to look at the pizza which only came in one size you'd think it would suck, it wasn't made to look good but to taste good.

all that said, for convenience and laziness and cost, i mostly order pizza from the chains.

i hate tipping, not because i begrudge the delivery guys making a decent buck, the pizza place should be paying them a good wage not passing the cost of delivery on to me via tipping the driver, I already pay enough for the food. 2 bucks is what I give.
