The other night I was talking to one of my brother-in-law's best friends. He repeatedly brought up the bullshit "we have to fight them over there so they don't attack us over here." line. I told him it took 19 guys with $1 box cutters and a big number of them are college educated.
Some goat herder in afghanistan is going to have a much harder time getting a green card or visa to enter the country. I talked to my sister about it the next day and she basically said they have to believe that to carry out their mission. They have to think god is on their side and there is a point to it all.
As far as I'm concerned, we got al qaeda and killed bin laden. We should pull out and let that country devolve further into the clusterfuck its eventually going to be anyway. The only reason we have to stay in afghan now is to help the gov't get the resources out of their semirecently discovered natural resources that could be worth trillions. That would give the gov't stability.
My sister's husband died earlier this year in afghanistan in a war that should have been more or less 'won' almost a decade ago. Bush fucked that up and put our resources in Iraq. That was a wrong war that never should have happened.
