A friend just lost all their shit because they didn't back up, which was a timely reminder to nag everyone here to make sure they are backing up properly.

Common wisdom is the 3-2-1 rule. 3 copies, 2 different types of media, 1 off site.

I have 2 x 2TB drives mirrored using SuperDuper (osx only) that has all my pics and music on. My internal drive is backed up locally to another external drive. I also have a large drop box account I put everything work related on. And I have another mirrored drive of my internal drive I take to a friends about once a month and swop over for the old copy of my data he has.

There are two types of people in this world. Those that have had a hard drive die on them, and those that are going to.
