Hmmm... I saw something to that effect on a tech forum somewhere, but I couldn't quite make out how to apply it in my instance.
Dumb question: doesn't Pinnacle need to be associated with AVI's in order to function?

Thing is I do use it almost daily.
A lot of people don't know this but of all the Pinnacle editions, Pinnacle 9 is the only one that allows you to work with four fully functional video tracks (even though it's not supposed to) and it's the most stable by far.
