You are assuming the guy will be in business next year, will be alive next year, will be in the country next year, will not have a fire or be burgled, will still be alive, had them in the first place, that they actually correct.
There are more reasons, but that's enough for now. I always advise "Get the documents", you can list the suplier as the holder of the records. But you should have them as a back up.
You see how this all started was me handing out good sound advise but some sensitve types take offense so easily.

It doesn't matter if Jon or One Lick will be around next year. I provide all 2257 info digitally on each CD. If you have all of the 2257 docs then where is the risk? Stop making inferences about things which you don't have the facts for.
I actually agree with your second point. Anyone who is using content that they don't have hardcopies of the 2257 docs for is playing with fire. Simply posting custodian of records info is not good enough.
