get a bowl of water , after you fill the bottle with the smoke push the bottle into the water, the air in the bottle will now become compressed

#1 - Wouldn't make much of a difference. You get a nice clean burn anyway
#2 - gravity bong would be a different concept. The smoke wouldn't stay well with the hot knives setup.
