I'm not afraid of heights, but I have pretty bad vertigo. Since I was a kid, balance has always been a issue.
I moved into an 18th floor penthouse apartment in 1992. I loved it - a great building - and I
loved the view from the safety of my living room. If I went out on the balcony and happened to glance down, though, I would instantly lose the concept of "up".
I had no fear - or intentions - of jumping, I would just lose track of where the door to safety was.
Those moments were fucking terrifying, and I have now restricted myself to bungalows.
