I purchased a wordpress theme and the author left out the built-in Wordpress gallery function, his support answer was that he doesn't know PHP enough to add it and he recommended a plugin like nextgen which I'm using now but don't like.

When I add the shortcode [ gallery ] in a post it just comes up blank, but if I switch themes the gallery comes up fine. Anyone familiar enough with themes to help me out?
