Though Mrs. Lauder, an avid photographer, had a home in Colorado and a penthouse on Fifth Avenue lined with modern art, she and her husband liked to retreat to a plain cabin in Putnam County, N.Y., where Mrs. Lauder might serve guests German food she had prepared.

She's left quite the legacy, but it doesn't sound like she's had that hard of a life (except for that Isle of Man stint. Coulda been a lot worse...), and she certainly wasn't young when she died. But I bet she smelled real nice.
Mrs. Lauder managed to live three years longer than my mother did, and my mother never did have any form of cancer.
Here's a potential legacy just waiting for some rich broad to jump on it: A ribbon campaign supporting research into the reasons why people just die. I think "mauve" is free. Why do people who have no diseases just up and die?
It makes me wonder.
