Not sure about every year, when I started buying domains they were $35 a pop from Network Solutions, and then they were purchased buy Verisign and a whole slew of discount registers got in the game.

Buy keeping the domain prices low you keep the little guy in the game, if there expensive corporations will take more control and of course make more money. It's basically the same as with a small mom and pop shop that can no longer afford the rent hike. Then some large chain store moves in.

It just seems the timing of corporations to raise prices in a world wide recession is foolish, and everything has gone up in the last 3 years.
