its a simple system, its not as acuate as gps, its based on the phone poles, as you move around the system has to know where you are to alow you to make phone calls. it also recoirds your location. it can calculate faily well your location.

its why if your sygnal is poor your advised to turn your phone off and on as it will tell the system where you are and as such put calls to you.

its why they call it a cell network in the usa, as your in a cell system.

today you do not tend to notice switch over but a few years back if you were on a train or somtimes a car, it would strugle to re-conect you to a local system as you moved from one to another.

but police do use this data somtimes.
