I'm not sure it's a good idea to take one of those checks to a check cashing place if you suspect it might bounce. Couldn't it be considered fraud since you have a suspicion the check will bounce and couldn't some of them try to go after you for additional fees?
Some counties have it set up so that you can turn in bounced checks for enforcement. I'm not sure how it would work for this or what the deal is but I'd think there is some kind of process and it would be tough for them to get out of it. Eventually they would have to pay.
