Actually WRT the Nazis, people do tend to have a very simple-minded view that it was all blood-crazed Holocausting 24/7 from 1933. In fact the Nazis and Zionists had very close ties (both of them believing, for different reasons, that Jews should be expelled from Europe) to the point where some Zionists, for example the extremist terrorist group the "Stern Gang", of which future Israeli PM Yitzhak Shamir was a member, actually offered to fight on the side of the Nazis.

The only unusual thing about the Nazis is how far they took views and attitudes that were established and accepted all over the world at the time. The victims of the Nazis - homosexuals, 'different' ethnic and racial groups and the mentally or physically disabled - were being persecuted, maltreated and killed all over the world.

Churchill, a hero of right-wing nutjobs in the USA today, was a notorious and vile racist and supremacist, even against white people of a 'lower' social class. He firmly believed in gassing and forced sterilization when it came to the 'wrong' kinds of people and referred to the white race in terms Hitler, and many of the racists on this forum, would approve of: as a "higher grade race".

As for the USA at the time of Hitler, the record is diabolical. Jesse Owens, who legend had it was snubbed by Hitler, can make the point:

"After all those stories about Hitler and his snub, I came back to my native country and I couldn't ride in the front of the bus," Owens recalled. "I had to go to the back door. I couldn't live where I wanted. Now what's the difference?"

"Hitler didn't snub me, it was FDR who snubbed me. The President didn't even send me a telegram."
