Our world has changed and news is instant and constant.
Twenty years ago we gathered around the only TV in the house for a half hour and watched the news. They did a few minutes on local stuff, a few minutes on national stuff, and then a few minutes on international. Toss in a fluff piece, the weather and sports, and that was all they had time for.
These days we have 24 hour news channels, and we can see things happening live on the Internet. Don't like the point of view the news is telling you? No problem, go some place else to get your news. (Much to my surprise I've been reading Aljazeera News.)
Now the info is too much. We know minute details of every disaster, and frankly it's blunted us. We no longer care as much.
