Simple
They are using hundreds of desperate unemplyed but educated losers from 3rd world countries to steal porn, upload it and distribute links on thousands of boards and blogs. The millions of users looking for free porn rush to these file uplaoding sites and even if 0.1% buy premium accounts, it is several thound a day for file sharing sites and less than $10 for losers who are rolling on the ground making "dollahs"
On top that there is the classic western countires business model-put the devil in the details aka terms and condtions. Means make huge banner ads promising $40/1000 downloads and then hide in TOS that it is upto $40 provided downloaders are all from US etc and on top that ratio of freeloaders to buyers should be blah blah
The end result out of 1000 who do the foot work, 800 quit or get nothinig in return.

If you have a porn site you are required to keep 2257 records. No such conditions for file sharing sites. No need of speding money upfront for content/marketing and such.
And best of all.....no need to worry about payment processors. Adult is most hated by paypal and others but adult on file sharing site is the darling of all. No problems.
Just make $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Porn industry was first mauled by forums and then ravaged by tube sites. File sharing sites are the last nail in the coffin.
