lets go down their list.
1. stop private spending on politics. public financing of political campaigns.
translation: spending money we don't have.
2. strike down a supreme court decision and ban corps. unions, and the very wealthy from political contributions.
translation: impliment taxation without representation since corps. and the wealthy pay taxes. throw in unions to make is seem fair.
3. don't let elected officials hold a job in a corp they regulate at the same time or hold stock in same company for 5 years.
translation: none. the first part doesn't happen and the second part is unconstitutional.
4. lifetime ban on gifts to elected officials.
comment: not a bad idea. completely unenforceable but not a bad idea to have on the books.
5. raise taxes on the rich.
translation: raise taxes on the successful so the unsuccessful will feel better.
6. institute a single payer health care system unless you're successful, then you pay for your own.
translation: huge spending we can't afford to gift the poor and middle class something they currently value less than their latest iphone and new car.
7. make the epa stronger than it is with the ability to shut down businesses, institute cap and trade.
translation: raise costs on energy that will be past onto consumers and drive companies away because of an overly regulated environmental plan
8. another call to raise taxes on the industries and people already paying the bulk of our country's bill
translation: raise taxes on our best people and businesses. if any businesses are still here, lets gouge them once more and act shocked when they leave and take their jobs with them.
9. lets spend more money on training that won't work and infrastructure.
translation: lets pretend we have the money to spend and that we haven't been spending billions on infrastructure every year already.
10. lets create another corporate tax to pay off student loans.
translation: lets gouge the last evil corps who've stayed in america so we can give freeloaders debt relief for a college education they CHOSE TO GO INTO DEBT FOR.
11. immediate passage of the dream act.
translation: instead of deporting illegal immigrants, lets give every mexican who slides out between a criminal's legs a college education. like we have the money for that too. but hey, it will increase the underclass voting rolls.
12. recall much of our military from around the world.
comments: good idea. sucks that it comes in at #12 but at least it came in.
13. mandating new educational goals and paying teachers a competitive salary.
translation: pretending we're falling behind the rest of the world educationally like we pretended in the '80s. Japan was supposed to own us by now. And apparently they're for lowering teachers' salaries to what the real world makes for 9 months of work.
14. offer tax incentives to businesses and spend money on public works projects.
translation: offer incentives that won't work and spend more money we don't have
15. legislate the end of currency manipulation and trade deficits.
comments: a noble cause.
16. Immediate reenactment of the Glass-Steagall Act and criminal investigations of the past collapse.
comments: I'm sure they meant "re-instate" Glass-Steagall which is a good idea, looking for scape goats, not so much.
17. the Federal Reserve shall buy all underwater or foreclosed mortgages and refinance these debts at 1% or less
translation: unicorns and lolly pops for people who made bad decisions.
18. An immediate one year freeze on all foreclosures to be reviewed by an independent foreclosure task force
translation: create another giant bureaucracy to interfere with the free market. again spending money we don't have for a cause we don't need.
19. free air time to political candidates.
translation: since nothing is "free" we'll spend more money we don't have.
20. immediate withdrawal of all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
comments: good plan.
so in a 20 point plan, there's what, 3 good things in it and the rest are totally idiotic.
