To debunk something you have to actually have to prove how it's wrong. Not point out a mostly relative event in history that correlates to your point.
Here, this is basically what he does. Ok, this is EXACTLY what he does.
He wants to make a point about global warming, he wants to debunk that global warming is caused by (insert something here). So, he takes a relevant point about history to coincide with his point. He says that "Look! As we've gone through history there are less pirates in the world while the average global temperature has increased. Therefore global warming is caused by having less pirates".
He doesn't actually debunk a damn thing. He just gives you a relevant piece of information that coincides with his side and opinion.
Come on man, this isn't rocket science to understand. Don't be so fucking gullible.
