The truth of the matter is the Philippines is just like many Spanish-colonized 3rd world countries-a small percentage of the population pimping the rest through fucked up high prices due to monopolies and the government exists to make sure the pimping continues. True freedom - real freedom can only come from a more open economy and REAL competition in the local marketplace. Sadly, that's not going to happen anytime soon since "nationalists" get moist at the idea of unwittingly helping local monopolists (who are really frontmen for SE Asia plutocrats) by insisting that any opening of the local economy is tantamount to selling out the Philippines' patrimony
