Surf Notes:

The new NW swell brought great surfing conditions to the north and NW shores of all the islands! The ocean was pretty smooth at most spots, even glassy at times...which is unusual for this time of year, when the trade winds are usually blowing. There were some areas that saw the daytime sea breezes bringing ruffle and light chop to our local coastal waters. However, in general, this was a really nice late season swell! The waves were breaking mostly in the 2-4 foot range with some larger sets to 5-6 feet for a short while at select spots. This swell has definitely peaked now, and is on the way down Friday, dropping further as we move into the weekend. This was a rare event to see not only one, but two NW swells arriving late in May and even into the first several days of the summer month of June. This will likely be the last of this kind of thing, as most folks will be driving over to south sides of the islands from now on, for the nice south swells waves that will be arriving as we move through this last part of spring...heading towards summer quickly.

Speaking of south swells, a new one began arriving Thursday afternoon. This new south-SSW swell will have risen further overnight, and should be going good today. The local winds will remain light for another couple of days, with just those light onshore/sideshore sea breezes blowing during the afternoon hours locally. The trade winds will return later this weekend, and then get stronger next week, so take full advantage of these unusually light winds now! This swell will break mostly in the 2-4 foot range, although it wouldn't surprise me to see some 5 foot sets as we move through the next few days. This swell should last through the weekend, and since the generating storm has sent us two impulses, we should see a second rise Sunday-Monday...this will be a long lasting south swell episode, extending out well into next week. I hope everyone gets to ride lots of waves, and that where you are isn't too crowded! Aloha for now...
