If you didn't find anything aggressive about your initial post in this thread you really are fucking stupid. Anyway...
The people who will use youtube to handle encoding are doing short clips. Very few of us are doing full-length videos. If I encoded full-length videos I might invest in some actual encoding hardware...but I don't.
Many of us are encoding short clips server side. I encode locally and upload since I use stream switching on some of my sites and I need several different resolutions of each video. Encoding a weeks worth of video for blog updates takes ~30 minutes when using multiple cores. Uploading the videos is more of a headache than encoding. For anyone to spend money unnecessarily would be a bad business decision despite what some douchebag kid on an internet forum says.
