As odd as this may sound to many of you, Two and a Half Men is Jon Cryer's show. Pretty well every story line since the show hit the air has centered around Alan. Charlie was there for comedic relief - and to stir up shit and publicity.

Until the last couple of seasons, there were very, very few story lines centred around Charlie Harper.

From his divorce, to hoping for a reconciliation with his estranged wife; from trying to be a weekend father to Jake, to his financial and professional problems... the show is 100% based around Jon Cryer.

Charlie Sheen (whom I DO love) was no more than a comedic foil to Jon Cryer's straight man. Just so happens that Charlie did such a brilliant job as the comedic foil that he ended up - if not completely dominating the show - garnering all of the publicity, and most of the money. While Two and a Half Men may be Jon Cryer's show, it would not have worked without the completely concious-free train wreck that is Charle Sheen.

Moving on:

Except for Charlie's visits with Jane Lynch (as his therapist) and Charlie's relationship with Chelsea and that ridiculously contrived "marraige storyline", Charlie Sheen was never more than a stupid drunk who would crack jokes at his brother's expense. Seriously, Charlie Harper was the oblivious, drunk idiot whom the mayhem of reality unfolded around. He remained drunk and cracked jokes while the people closest to him struggled with some very serious problems. Not just Alan; but Bertha, and Jake.

Shame to say, but that inability to grasp the reality of his situation followed Charlie Sheen into real life.

The show was about a down on his luck everyman; a pussy-whipped geek (Jon Cryer). He had to move in with his superficial, unjustifiaby wealthy brother after his marraige broke down. The show was never about Charlie Sheen -but by sheer strength of personality, Charlie Sheen took it over.

It IS Jon Cryer's show. I did not have the chance to watch it tonight, but I hope Ashton can fill Charlie's shoes. I like that guy - but I've been watching Charlie Sheen for over 30 years. I may be biased.

In summation: Two and a Half Men is Jon Cryer's show. That is not a bad thing. Ducky!!!

I guess you had to grow up in the 80's...
