Let me guess, you have yet to go through the emotional explosion of a 10/15/20+ year relationship ending. Rational thought just isn't there for a long time, and *because* it isn't there, you can't make the rational decision of not entering a new relationship because it would be 'dumb and selfish' because he wasn't done mourning.
