About ten years when my father passed.

Regarding "happily" married, my father was not a happy person. He wasn't happily anything. I suspect that all marriages have ups and downs, that the first months of giddiness always give way to something more mature. Although, my three years of marriage have been pretty awesome. I suspect that is largely because we are each happy people who enjoy our life. We are happy married just as we were happy single. My ex-wife wasn't happy single, wasn't happy married, and isn't happy divorced. So to me "happily married" is a bit misleading. "Happy and married" better describes how it works, I think.
