He went to jail because he made a lot of people really (really) mad and angry. The actual technical way they brought his ass down was because his company managed to ship (mail) content to the wrong jurisdiction and BLAM they had him.
I think it was the same with johhny cheech or bonnie chong or whoever the weed guy is
