Some things are but it depends on your circumstances as to if they matter.
Gas for example is more expensive than the US but, if like most webmasters you aren't commuting it makes little difference.
It really just depends on what you need each day.
Grocery in the UK is on par with the US price wise. Eating out is generally cheaper because you don't have to tip 20%.
There is no monthly medical payment (its part of National insurance contributions).
Having lived in both countries I was amazed at how good the US seemed when I got here but, after a while you realize that its very similar regarding gross and taxed salary.
What you can't get around though.....the houses are way smaller and the weather inclement at best ;)
