"Direct Interest" means someone who had custody of the child or took care of the child. That rules out the dad because he's dead. That rules out the brother unless he can prove he took care of the child. The only people that can sue for wrongful death against Casey are the grandparents Cindy and George because it seems like they did in fact take care of the child. And like I said before, what's the use of suing someone who has no assets? It's a waste of time any money.
As for Casey rolling around in cash, that's unlikely because from what I hear, attorney Baez has all the book and film rights. He got that in return for representing Casey for free or lowered fee.
