Yeah, I could see how you could think that, because well, it's actually true. Downtown in West Van, it's an absolutely amazing city, and by far the best I've ever lived in. Outside of West Van though, it's just another typical city, with some pretty shitty areas like Surrey or E Hastings.
It's weird, you can be walking around downtown in say Gastown, which is a really cool, posh sort of area. If you walk two blocks in the wrong direction, it completely transforms into this heroin haven. A bunch of homeless, schizophrenic addicts running around, tripping out, yelling up at sky giving god a lecture, etc. Feel sorry for the tourists who are just going for a nice stroll, and accidentally stumble into it.
