I ran into a similar situation years ago. My conclusion?
If it's just a temporary thing, hire them to do it and eat it. Also, do not forget to check out smaller "mom & pop" type firms and check their pricing as well. Hell, if it's something that can be postponed a bit or something that may be in the distant future, throw up a help wanted advertisement on Craigslist. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results, especially if you are willing to buy paper, ink, etc...
Or... it's something you think will be an ongoing thing? Buy the gear. Buy your printer, ink paper and pump out as many as you want for pennies.
