The movie was meant to be a modern day retelling of the book of Job from the old testament. You have to be familiar with that story in order for the movie to make sense.
Likewise with "No country for Old Men" People think the story is about the Llewellyn character and feel ripped off at the ending because it seems like more of a footnote than a climax.
But the movie, like the book is not about a cowboy on the run with drug money, its about an aging country sheriff watching the world go to shit.
