yeah ... had that prob once after downloading Photoshop CS3 and pretty much knowing what I was getting into, I went ahead to play with fire.
get Microsoft Security Essentials.. its free and works good. I've had several AV progs but this one is great for the price.
However,
your problem is worse.
Either
a: Try Belarc Security Adviser to find the rogue (super-hidden) file in your Windows directory. Usually named and disguised as a windows file and delete it. Reboot and scan with AV software to kill anything else.
or
b. Boot into safe mode and scan the computer with MSE or some other AV software. But of course dont buy the shit the virus is trying to sell you unless you want to give hacks your credit card to play with. Then once you know the virus name, google it for a fix or see the MSE fix recommendation. You probably need to go into terminal mode and find the super-hidden files the virus put on your computer. Log in as admin or view admin files via BelArc Security Advisor. Thats actually how I found the main hidden virus file in my Windows/System directory. This is tricky shit, but fixable.
